Business Model Enhancement

The situation

A technology company with a novel voice and data communications strategy was seeking investment capital with their existing business plan. The company had never raised outside capital and was unfamiliar with the process. Its business plan nearly read as a text book example; it contained all of the elements … except the most critical part: the right business model to address the opportunity. Because of its failure to attract capital, the management team was suffering from poor morale and dissension among the ranks. The company was running out of cash with only 30 days of working capital on hand. So it called for help.

How our professionals helped

First, our professionals developed a plan to conserve the company’s cash and to provide the time to develop the right strategy and business model for the business plan. Our professionals then researched other business models within the industry to gain insight into how the company’s market offerings should be priced and sold. This research allowed our professionals to map the company’s entire value chain and ecosystem to identify key differentiation points and opportunities for value capture.

To get the company back on the right course, our professionals then totally re-vamped the company’s business model and plan; our professionals prepared defensible rationale—supported by financial projections—to fund the company’s growth and address the large and growing market opportunity. Our professionals also provided “C” level guidance and support to re-establish a working team to execute the business plan and finally provided effective valuation and pricing advice for the first round of financing.

The result

The company received first round financing and is now launching its product in selected markets across the United States. Today, the management team is able to focus on day-to-day operations without the stress of facing business failure.
